I’m Gerry Woods and I am the newly elected Chair of the Winnebago County Green Party Central Committee. Thanks to the great showing of Rich Whitney in his 2006 campaign for Governor in which he collected over 10% of the Statewide vote the Green Party gained equally on the ballot with the Republican and the Democratic Parties.
In his 2006 campaign Mr. Whitney received about a quarter of the total votes for Governor in Winnebago County. The county’s residents clearly indicated a preference for a new direction in Illinois government. We now intend to keep their faith and to provide the citizens with good governance for now and for future generations.
On February 5, 2008 the Green Party participated in its first Primary in Illinois. Although we do not have the resources to challenge in all contested races on the ballot, we will provide the voters with a candidate in many of the races offering a clear difference for a new direction in politics and governance.
We now need to add new members and to seek potential candidates for the local elections in 2009 and to recruit candidates for the all-important statewide elections in 2010.
